BSRA moves to 24 / 7 access

After months of lockdown in a 2020 to forget, the Ballarat Squash and Racquetball Fitness Centre is going full-bore into next year.

The Wendouree venue is now back open and has moved to 24-hour access seven days a week to accommodate people's varying work and lifestyle circumstances.

Manager Tara Pilven believes her centre is the only indoor sports venue in Ballarat that can be used 24/7.

"You use the key fob on the front door for entry and then you enter the centre and have access to the whole centre," Pilven said.

"We have a gym as well as all the courts.

"All of the lights are on sensor so once you walk in they come on.

"At the moment we have about 50 of our members using it so far, but obviously we have just started it so we are trying to build that up."

In a tough year for indoor sport facilities, the Ballarat Squash and Racquetball Fitness Centre closed in late March due to COVID-19 restrictions and only opened fully again in late November.

Pilven said the centre had also installed MultiBall, which is a mixed reality sports and gaming platform built for the interaction between physical activity and digital games.

As part of the expansive overall improvements to the building, solar panels have been installed and renovations completed, including a new roof and front facade. The club lounge has been painted and revamped, while all court walls have been repaired.
